Kevin & Suzette WimpyValue of Photography, don’t sell yourself short ! |
|
(Tue. Mar. 2nd, 6:00 PM at the Otter Creek Church in Brentwood)
Photography is awesome, but you need to get paid for your creative eye, time and technical knowledge. We plan on talking about "What's in the bag", Finding Your niche and our personal journey from hobby to full time studio.
About Us:
Award winning, certified professional photographer, Kevin Wimpy, began his life-long pursuit of the art of photography upon receiving his first camera at age 11. He spent countless hours in the darkroom perfecting his skills using contrast and vibrancy to develop his signature portrait print style and now uses those same techniques in the digital medium. Kevin spends countless hours continuing his education through reading and studying with top photographers from around the world. He approaches clients with sensitivity and humor to discover who they are and who they want to be so that he can capture that in their portraits. Classical training and certification provide the base to build artistry and emotion into his cinematic imagery.
Suzette Wimpy, a former music business executive, has studied photography and photographed documentaries for non-profit organizations throughout the world, with a special emphasis on organizations that help children. Kevin and Suzette met when they were both asked by a mutual friend to participate in a unique photo assignment. They later married, and are blessed with two daughters. In addition to her photography, Suzette focuses on marketing and design for Kevin Wimpy Studios.
Kevin and Suzette each possess their own style and working together gives them a unique edge. They approach each project, a wedding, a child's first year, or a professional headshot, with passion and focus to tell the story of individual subjects. Both believe that compassion and getting to know their customers allow them to create art that satisfies and uplifts their subjects. Kevin sums up his passion with this statement: "We are blessed because we are always getting to see our customers at the greatest moments in their lives, the moments they want to cherish forever".

May 2009 Roundtables |
|
(Tue. May 5th, 6:00 PM at the Otter Creek Church in Brentwood)
Our May meeting welcomes the return of our popular Roundtables. This allows you to select the topic you want to learn more about. In the past, we've typically had one session that kept you at your selected table for the entire meeting time. Many of you have told me that it was too hard to decide, because there was more than one topic you wanted to visit. This time, we will be splitting the evening into two sessions. You can select two topics to learn or stay at your selected topic for both sessions if you want a review or ask more questions.
Also, we are very excited to be able to announce that, new this year, is a booth that will be manned by the folks at Peachtree Camera Repair in Atlanta. They will be offering onsite FREE check of any film cameras you bring. Also, they will be offering professional sensor cleaning. If you were to send your camera to the manufacturer to clean you could spend $150 - 200 for the cleaning + shipping both ways and lose the time it takes to do it. Peachtree's normal charge is $50 for this service, but for this special night, our cost, as BCC members, is just $30. They will be able to accept cash, check or credit cards. In order to take care of all who want this service, they will begin at 6:00 and service as many as they can by the time the meeting is over. I would suggest getting to them early to get your place in their queue.
We have some great table leaders lending their expertise on some exciting topics.
Camera Basics for Canon - Led by Doug Almy
Doug will lead you through setting up your camera and how to get the most from it. He also shares his research of Canon lenses and their specs.
Camera Basics for Nikon - Led by Jim Bruner
Jim will cover setting up your camera and explore some hidden menu items that allow you to do some innovative things with it.
Photoshop: Layers & Masks - Led by Nick Dantona
Nick will teach two core concepts of image manipulation without harming a single pixel of your picture.
Photo Critique - Led by Robert McCurley
This table will explore learning to "see" and how others react to your work. This discussion will be focused more on what you as an artist and photographer want to say with your photos rather than techniques such as Photoshop or equipment. Participants should bring at least one photograph to share with the group for feedback and discussion. If you've been seeking feedback on your photographic vision and your photographs, this table is for you. Beginners are especially welcome.
The Ron Box Effect - Led by Ron Box
You've probably seen Ron's exquisite Picture-A-Day photos on the Yahoo group postings. Now, learn how to get that look. Ron will lead us through creative cropping with a twist, using Lightroom sliders to make your images pop, painting with light and shadows using curve adjustment layers and using the filter gallery on a selective basis to optimize specific areas of your images. He will also be willing to answer any questions about any of his PAD images.
Weddings & Portraits - Led by Chuck Arlund
Chuck will share the secrets to producing amazing wedding and portrait images. He will cover topics such as, manipulating groups quickly to get a great portrait, finding the great light and how to get candid shots in good light by directing.
He will also go over some of the things he looks for to create very color rich dynamic portraits and scenes.
High Dynamic Range Photography (HDR) - Jerry Park
You've seen the beautiful results of this new technology. Now learn how to do it yourself. Jerry will show us how. By using Photomatix, you will process, step by step, a 3-exposure image, from uploading through tone-mapping to a finished product ready for tweaking in Photoshop.

August 2010
Nancy Lee Andrews |
|
(Tue. August. 3rd, 6:00 PM at the Otter Creek Church in Brentwood)
Our August meeting will feature Nancy Lee Andrews, celebrity photographer. Nancy Lee will be speaking about her passion for the art of photography and the story about how her hobby became an important part of her life, developing into a master career.
About Nancy Lee Andrews
Nancy Lee Andrews is a former international model turned photographer. She recently added author to her resume with the publication of her photo book, A Dose of Rock 'n' Roll. Andrews was on the other side of the camera for years, working as a Ford model for some of the greatest photographers of the '60s and '70s. They included Richard Avedon, Dick Ballerian, Irving Penn, Hiro and Milton Greene, who recognized that Andrews had a burning desire to click the shutter. "He handed me a Nikon camera and said, 'Try it and see what happens,'" Andrews recalls. "From the first roll of film I was hooked on the process to capture the moment. The moment is never the same and people are the most fascinating subjects on earth. I love what I do." Thus began her career on the other side of the camera.
Encouraged by former Beatle Ringo Starr, with whom she shared her life from 1974-1980, Andrews began shooting fashion assignments for designer boutiques along Rodeo Drive and trendy Melrose Avenue. This in addition to shooting publicity and photo packages for three Ringo Starr albums - Rotogravure, Ringo the 4th and Bad Boy. Andrews moved to Nashville, Tennessee in 1994 and opened her photography studio in Cummins Station the following year. Her first recognition came from her series of photographs of the angelic statuary of historic Mount Olivet Cemetery. Two were selected to hang in the Tennessee State Museum during Tennessee's bicentennial year, and have since become part of their permanent collection.
In 1996 she was appointed director of photography for a high concept magazine called Twang, a Vanity Fair take on country music. Featuring Andrews' stunning pictorials of country's stars and most interesting people, Twang was distributed by Time Warner. Applauded by critics, fans and stars, Andrews' work showed her unique vision, extreme originality and precision of execution. As a result, Twang helped country music break out of its stereotype and gain a response from a previously untapped national audience that was hip, affluent and country.
In 2008, Dalton Watson Fine Books published a glossy coffee table photography book, A Dose of Rock ‘n' Roll. A look back at her years with the famous drummer and some of the greatest rock and roll and pop icons of the 70s and the women who loved them.
The Tennessee State Museum presented an exhibition of her work A Dose of Rock ‘n' Roll & A Pinch of Country to launch her book release after a successful show at the June Kelly Gallery in New York City.
Nancy has written a novel, Carny Boy, A book about her brother, who in 1966 was 13, ran away with the Carnival and made it his home. She is currently working on a new photography book of Ringo Starr. Her Rock and Roll tome, Shake Rattle and Roll, is to be released in 2012.
