Merchant Discounts Several businesses in Williamson County and surrounding communities offer discounts to club members. A member's id is their passport to savings from these merchants. Savings at local merchants can easily pay for annual membership dues. The list of merchants offering discounts changes periodically throughout the year as new businesses discover the value of attracting club members. Typically, there are discounts on paper, ink, framing, batteries, books and general photographic supplies. Seminars by Experts The first Tuesday of each month, the membership meets to share their photography, discuss technical and asethetic concerns and to attend a presentation conducted by an expert in the photography and related businesses. These guest speakers provide a seasoned look at areas such as wildlife, floral, portrait and still life photography, as well as journalism, marketing and exhibition print making. The images they show and the expertise they offer create a springboard for member exploration of their own work. Outings and Activities During the year, the club organizes photo outings and activities. Some of these are education-based field trips led by a recognized authority in photography. Other outings are just an opportunity for members to get together and shoot a specific subject. Places we have been include downtown Nashville, the Bicentennial Mall, Centennial Park, Long Hunter State Park, Old Stone Fort and Cheekwood. Volunteer Work The club works with many local charitable organizations like the Special Olympics through the Cool Springs Rotary Club, the Arthritis Foundation and the American Diabetes Association in their fund-raising efforts. At these events, members volunteer to photograph the event and its participants, granting the organization the right to sell copies of their work to raise money to support research. It is a lot of fun with many benefits some of which may not be immediately apparent. The tangible benefits are free t-shirts, lunch, and unrestricted access to the event and related activities. The intangible benefits come from being of service to the community, making new friends, and spending time with fellow club members. These activities are lead by an experienced club member who will share methods and techniques that will improve your photographic skills. Mini Clinic All members of the Brentwood Camera Club are entitled to attend the monthly Mini Clinic meetings held the second Thursday evening of each month at the Brentwood United Methodist Church.
